Vibe coding from the sofa
Thanks to AI, it’s almost as effortless as checking Instagram or TikTok to create a web app.
Since OpenAI released ChatGPT and kicked off a wave of AI startups, tools, and services, I’ve had many wow moments. These are truly remarkable times.
One of the most striking moments for me has been discovering Lovable (along with its competitors like Claude, Bolt, Replit, Windsurf, ChatGPT, and Cursor). The experience of providing a prompt and, just a minute later, having a website or app deployed is incredible. It’s one of the most inspiring experiences I’ve ever had.
I’ve been building websites since I was eight years old, and my fascination with it has never faded. While others played video games in my childhood, I built websites and tried to make money online.
Even at eight, my first site had ads. Making money online became an obsession, and over the years, I kept improving. The early learning curve—Dreamweaver, FTPs, HTML, PHP, CSS, ASP.NET, Flash (!), Photoshop, and SEO—was fantastic. Forums like Webmaster Network, SEO Forum, and later, the early blog community (plus Jaiku!) helped shape me into an internet entrepreneur who understood not just how to create for the web, but how to make money from it.
From running hundreds of affiliate sites to launching web apps, startups, mobile apps, search engines, social media platforms, SaaS services, and countless e-commerce sites, I’ve been in the website-building space for a long time. Today, I run an agency with over 100 employees doing exactly that. It’s safe to say I know how to create for the web.
But until now, it has always been an effort. From my first HTML sites to the sophisticated e-commerce sites our agency develops today, the process has required significant work. Yes, platforms like WordPress, Shopify, Squarespace, and Webflow have made things easier over the years. Launching a website or e-commerce store with a template is now straightforward, reducing friction at every step.
Yet even so, thanks to Lovable and AI, the effort required to build advanced websites and apps has become close to zero. A single prompt—maybe a few—then publish, and it’s live. It’s a strange but fantastic experience. Creating digital products has never been this effortless.
"Vibe coding" or "prompt coding" has turned web app development into something you can do from your sofa, on your mobile, within 20 seconds of having an idea. You can do it on the bus, or even while putting your kids to bed. It’s almost as effortless as checking Instagram or TikTok.
You can now launch a fully functional app—with databases, a custom domain, interactivity, an admin interface, and more—in the same amount of time it takes to watch one or two episodes of The Gentlemen on Netflix. A weekend is enough to launch multiple apps. (Case in point: Year Progress, Ekonomiverktyg, Digital Valentine’s Day Cards.)
Imagine being young today, fascinated by building websites and making money online. Wow, what an opportunity. It would be unbelievably inspiring.
Vibe code away—it’s one of the most creative and exhilarating experiences you can have online today.
